Common Questions About Acupuncture
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture originated in ancient China over three thousand years ago and is
the primary source of health care for one third of the world's population.
It is practiced frequently across the United States and has been endorsed by
the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Acupuncture works by balancing one's Qi (pronounced
"chee"), your vital energy or life force. Qi flows through your body
in pathways called meridians. When qi flows smoothly there is wellness
and harmony. When qi does not flow smoothly, there may be symptoms of
discomfort and disease.
Why Should I Consider Acupuncture?

What About Those Needles?
Acupuncture needles are very thin, about the thickness of two human hairs.
These solid, stainless steel needles are pre-sterilized, packaged
individually and are disposed of after each use. Most treatment
involves inserting the needle just beneath the skin. Sensations vary
from person to person. Most patients report little or no discomfort.
How do we start?
Your initial visit will give us an opportunity to start to know each other.
A client's health history will be discussed and a physical exam is
conducted. We will also discuss your reasons for seeking acupuncture
treatment.
How Many Visits Will I Need?
The number of visits varies from person to person and depends on the length
of time a symptom has been present.
Treatments have a cumulative effect. To
promote this progress the first visits are scheduled weekly.
Gradually, treatments are spaced out to two or three week intervals.
It is generally reasonable to observe changes within six to ten visits.
What is the Cost of Treatment?
Fees are consistent with general medical
care and will be discussed prior to your first appointment. Many
insurance companies will reimburse you for acupuncture expenses.
Consult your provider. The financial circumstances of anyone seeking
treatment will be considered.
